Belfast Blueberry Cooperative’s Cattail & Sky Field and blueberries are protected by a Maine Farmland Trust Forever Farms easement, and “no spray” since 2018. Blueberry blossoms are pollinated by 100% wild bees and insects, who have enjoyed this biodiverse field since 1990 when 80 years of forest growth were removed. Deep soil and eastward slope protect this oasis of berries from frosts and droughts, for a reliably sweet and plentiful crop. Community involvement is invited; many people help with autumn and spring field-care in trade for PYO blueberry credit.
